Cape Town bookkeeping cleanup
Where to start when the books can no longer be trusted
Bookkeeping cleanup is not simply recapturing data. It is establishing what happened, what evidence exists, what remains uncertain, and which figures can be defended.

Define the problem before pricing the cleanup
The size of the business does not reveal the size of the problem. A useful diagnostic examines periods affected, transaction volume, accounting systems, missing documents, tax types and the quality of prior work.
Reconstruct from independent records
Bank and card statements provide a dependable starting skeleton. Existing ledgers, supplier records, invoices, receipts and payroll information can then be compared against actual cash movement.
Give the owner exceptions, not data capture
The owner should answer questions that require business context. They should not be asked to repeat work that can be recovered from existing systems and source documents.
Finish with defined outputs
A cleanup engagement should produce corrected records, an exception register, missing-evidence status, readiness schedules, management information where scoped, and a clear professional handoff.
TaxProof's role
TaxProof provides bespoke accounting cleanup and SARS-readiness support. Tax advice and regulated submissions are handled through registered tax-practitioner partners where required.
